The highly anticipated follow-up to Sabrina Ionescu’s debut shoe has come. The Sabrina 2 shoe launches on June 28th exclusively from Nike, but will be available at Rookie Kids shortly after.
For the first time, this sneaker is available in kids’ sizes. We will carry them in big kid sizes (4Y - 7Y). Two colorways launching soon:
Nike and Sabrina Ionescu aimed to create a shoe designed for the future generation of basketball players. The goal was to make a shoe designed for quick players who accelerate and cut swiftly. The result was a shoe that is 28 grams lighter but still contains all the necessary stability and comfort.
Shoe Technology in Sabrina 2
For the first time seen in a basketball shoe, the Sabrina 2 has a Cushlon 3.0 midsole and firmer Cushlon carrier. A Nike Zoom Air unit in the forefoot provides energy return and responsiveness. To cradle the foot, there's an updated S-shaped band around the midfoot. For traction, there’s a new S-shaped herringbone pattern that allows for quick cutaways. The shoe was created using research from female wearers, including Sabrina herself. It was then tested on female and male wearers to ensure the fit was conducive to both genders.
Design of Sabrina 2
The “S” theme is throughout the design of this shoe. It is seen in the midfoot band, sole, and embroidery patterns, a nod to her initials and number. Symbolically, the Swoosh on the shoe is designed vertically to represent the glass ceilings Sabrina breaks through. The last well-thought-out detail of this shoe is her signature in the form of an ambigram on the outside of the shoe. The ambigram is meant to look like a continuous link, a nod to family and loyalty.
